Some call them the one-armed bandit, others call them slots, the casinos call them profit.
Because security and player tracking are a constant challenge for gaming facilities, a
casino needed to retrofit existing slot machines with a custom system that could reliably
track both. They developed their own system designed to reduce the risk of a security breach
and easily customize the player tracking process. Included in the solution was a Z-World
BL1600 Series SBC that provided flexible interfaces for a variety of inputs, outputs, and
communications.
The casino had several requirements that included a reliable, continuous 24-hour operation
and an interface to a magnetic card reader for player tracking. The system also needed to
provide a multi-drop master/slave network for communications between 100 or more slot machines,
interface to a custom-designed communications board and monitor 10 security sensors and
provide remote status monitoring.
The casino used Z-World's BL1600 controller and proprietary development system Dynamic
C® to design and customize the system that would satisfy each requirement.
The BL1600 was programmed with Dynamic C to provide a multitasking real-time environment
that monitored security sensors, coordinated communications, and controlled the custom board.
The BL1600's standard connectors provided a simple method for connection of the digital
sensors and RS-232 magnetic card reader. A multi-drop RS-485 network of controllers, utilizing
a twisted-pair of wires, was implemented using software routines provided with Dynamic
C.
Why Z-World?
- The BL1600 provided the necessary I/O connections and communication channels.
- Small size allowed embed ding controllers in a variety of slot machine enclosures.
- Dynamic C® provided master/slave networking, reducing program development time
and complexity.
- Field-proven technology and valuable technical support.
